The conference didn’t address a road to follow in order to achieve and agreement. Although negotiations will continue next year, the loss of a legally binding agreement turned the Copenhagen Conference a wasted opportunity.

The primary purpose of the Denmark gathering is to create a replacement for the Kyoto Protocol of 1997, the U.N. endeavour to reduce global warming that expires in 2012.
